Launch day arrives and Radiance is rolled into the Columbia River. Well wishers join the festivities to share the fruition of a 30 year dream.
Building and sailing Radiance was the culmination of a 30+ year dream. Following the launch of the family boat Corahleen in 1957, I began dreaming of the time I would build my own dream vessel.
With the writings of L. Francis Herreshoff at hand in the form of many series of articles appearing in the Rudder magazine, one of which became published as The Common Sense of Yacht Design, it was not to difficult to fall in love with the master's favorite vessel, Ticonderoga
Sailing Radiance exceeded every expectation that was generated from all the writings and testimonials given for Ticonderoga. The only misgiving was waiting so long to build her.
Mahogany planking over galvanized steel frames
Radiance's steel structures rises like the skeleton of some prehistoric creature, but already the genius of the design is evident in the wine-glass shape of her underbody.
